Tutoring
Tutoring is an on-going process meant to supplement classroom learning. Tutoring involves a student and a tutor who meet once or twice a week to clarify a courses content. Tutors are available for a variety of courses.

Note: Due to liability issues, tutoring services must be conducted on the The University of Toledo Health Science Campus.

Supplemental Instruction:

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a student academic assistance program that increases the academic performance and retention through its use of collaborative learning strategies. The SI program targets traditionally difficult academic courses, those that typically have a 20 percent or higher rate of failing grades. The SI program at The University of Toledo Health Science Campus provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class, peer-facilitated sessions that offer students an opportunity to discuss and process course information.

SI identifies high-risk courses not high-risk students, thus avoiding the remedial stigma often attached to traditional academic assistance programs. SI is open to all students in the high-risk course; therefore, prescreening of students is unnecessary. Since the SI program begins the first week of the period academic block or term, the program provides academic assistance during the critical intial three-week period of class before students face their major examination.

The SI program at The University of Toledo Health Science Campus enables students to master course content while they develop and integrate effective learning and study strategies. Therefore, learning study strategies are integrated into the course content during the SI sessions. Immediate practice and reinforcement of these acquired skills are provided. SI collaborative sessions capitalize on the use of the "teachable moment" to apply the learning strategies to the course material.
