The Department of Biochemistry & Cancer Biology is located on the 4th floor of the Block Health Science Building. Our modern research laboratories are fully equipped for studies using state-of-the art techniques in biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology. In addition to the laboratories of the individual faculty, the department maintains shared cold rooms, a dark room, a core laboratory for culture of human and other mammalian cell lines, microscopy facilities for fluorescence imaging and single cell microinjection, and instrumentation laboratories equipped with several ultracentrifuges, DNA thermal-cyclers, FPLC and HPLC systems, spectrophotometers, scintillation counters, Beckman CEQ2000 automated DNA sequencing system, and a Kodak 440CF chemiluminescence image station, Packard FUSION universal microplate reader configured for BRET and AlphaScreen assays, an ABI 7500 real-time PCR sequence detection system, and a Biacore 3000 surface plasmon resonance system. All computers in the department are connected to UT's network servers and have capabilities for color printing, campus-wide data sharing, high-speed internet access, and access to bioinformatics resources and library electronic journals.
In addition to the resources located within the department, all faculty members have access to UT's proteomics/genomics core lab, electron microscopy core lab, and AALAC-accredited animal care facilities.
