The University of Toledo Health Science Campus
The Early Learning Center provides a nationally accredited day care/pre-school program for children 18 months to five years of age. Children developing typically and children with special learning or health needs are recruited from the faculty and staff of the Health Science Campus and the community.
The center's program is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. The academy is a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the largest organization of early childhood educators.
The center features a "play based" learning environment that promotes the children's physical, social, emotional and intellectual development. Strong emphasis is placed on learning through play with the care giver as a facilitator, role model and listener rather than a "teacher" in the traditional sense.
The center features:
- Learning activities that are developmentally appropriate such as block building, art activities, reading stories, dramatic play, and active outdoor play
- Teachers trained in early childhood education
- Many varied age-appropriate materials
- Nutritious meals and snacks
- Regular communication with parents who are welcome visitors at all times
