Department Information - Research

Research Mission

The areas of research directed by faculty members of the Department closely correlate with the teaching program and emphasize molecular aspects of:

- Bacterial and fungal pathogenesis 
- Molecular Mechanisms of immune response to infection 
- Disease diagnosis 
- Vaccine development and immunotherapy 
- Viral replication/transcription regulation 
- DNA-protein interactions 
- Viral evolution

Research Initiatives

Technology transfer grants have been awarded by NIH to our faculty in support of translational research.

Research Mentoring Distinctions

Graduate students supervised by faculty in the department have won or shared the Liberato J. A. DiDio Award for Excellence in Graduate Research for 11 consecutive years.
